Welcome to The Bluffs at Valhalla

Forty miles east of Denver, a line of clay bluffs overlooks the tree-studded confluence of the Bijou creeks. Legend has that these low hills were a favored vantage point for roving bands of plains Indians scouting for game and watching for enemies. Certainly the panorama is awesome. Colorado's front range is in easy view from our rise, the Pike's Peak on the south to Longs Peak on the north. These storied bluffs are the back drops for perhaps the finest new upland bird hunting club in the west, The Bluffs.

With private Memberships available to assure your enjoyment of over four thousand acres of upland bird habitat, with its very own lodge furnished and staffed with nothing but your satisfaction in mind. The Bluffs has the ability to host a variety of sponsored hunts without infringing on the memberships rights, let us tailor a hunt package for you.

ABOUT US

Half a century ago, the MacLennan family purchased a small cattle ranch on the banks of the Kiowa creek. They named it Valhalla Ranch "Home of the champions", and began to raise cattle. Before long, the cattle began to live up to that name. Twenty years later they added a second grazing property to their holdings some 20 miles further east, near Byers Colorado. This second property was destined to become The Bluffs.

In 1989 at the suggestion of many of their bird hunting friends, the MacLennans converted the home ranch into a private hunting preserve known today as Valhalla Bijou, it is recognized as one of the states finest private hunting operations in the state of Colorado.

In 2002, in order to accommodate the large number of hunters who prefer the experience of wild bird hunting, we opened the majority of the Bijou Ranch to a select group of sportsmen. We have created the most realistic wild bird hunt you can have on a preserve. This is made possible by the vast amount of land, susteained wild bird populations, and accommodations that make a two-three day hunt feasible.

The Bluffs staff includes superior guides, an experienced game management team, and a great cook.

THE EXPERIENCE

You will be hunting on the majestic confluence of the East and West Bijou Creeks. The cover is native Colorado grassland, dry creek bottoms, and mature cottonwoods. The Bluffs are one hour from Denver and forty-five minutes from Denver International Airport.

Pheasants and Bob White Quail are native to this part of Colorado and thanks to aggressive land management and very careful species management we have successful hatches year after year. We also manage and sustain populations of Chukar and Hungarian Partridge.

Since we augment the bird population we are able to set more liberal bag limits than the state allows, and birds can be harvested without a hunting license.

Here at The Bluffs, we encourage the parties to be four or less in the field but we can tailor many different hunting packages to suit your needs. Our capacity at the lodge is twelve hunters with individual beds.

We know the joy it brings to hunt behind a well trained bird dog. We know how much more gratifying it is when it is your dog. So feel free to bring your dog. Kennels are available for your dog's overnight accommodations.

THE LODGE

The Bluffs Lodge has been designed with country comfort in mind.Your relaxation is at the top of our list.

The lodge provides over 6,200 square feet of contemporary living and entertaining space. There are six bedrooms and four baths that can accommodate twelve comfortably.

Located on a remote acreage within the farm and cattle country east of Denver. You won't hear the traffic, just the pheasants calling you out to the field.

Sit by the fireplace in the living room or pull up a chair to the woodstove in the kitchen to boast about your expert shooting. Watch the game on our big screen TV or shoot a game of pool in the recreation room, complete with a wet bar.

If you put in a full day of hunting, there's nothing like a soak in our indoor hottub before or after dinner. All of our meals are served family style and you won't go away hungry. The menu can be tailored to your specific needs for an additional fee.

Rates include dinner the night of arrival; breakfast the next day and lunch after you hunt. Private rooms are available when accommodations allow and non-hunting guests are welcome. For the comfort of all guests, no smoking or dogs, are allowed within the lodge.

Member and Member Guest Rates:
• Double room with private or shared bath - $100.00 per person

Non-Member Rates:
• Double room with shared bath - $125.00 per person
• Double room with private bath - $150.00 per person

SPONSORED HUNTS

The club will host coporate or sponsored hunts throughout the season. These hunts will also be restricted to areas designated by the manager. The members will still have hunting privileges, use of the cleaning facilities and restrooms. Simply stated the corporate hunts provide additional birds for the members and revenue to the club. This is a common practice among private clubs with this vast amount of resources. Sponsored hunts will be conducted under the following guidelines:

Opportunity to shoot 20 birds per gun
Lodging, meals, guides, dogs, transportation
$600.00 per gun, per day

MEMBERSHIPS

Membership at The Bluffs will be limited to 100 individuals. There will be no corporate memberships. The Advisory Board and Principles must approve any change in the membership. There shall be two classes of membership, Charter and Annual.

Charter Members:
Charter members will pay a one-time initiation fee of $35,000 and $1,500 in annual dues. In return, Charter members will receive:

* A liberal allocation of Bagged Birds (150) per year
* Seniority preference on field selection and use of the lodge
* Access to the lodge for morning coffee and lunch
* Use of the lodge for guest entertaining
* Locker
* Shooting vest and hat
* A fixed rate of $18 for all birds bagged beyond the allocation

Our intent is that Charter Members would have liberal access to the lodge and little or no additional fees beyond their annual dues for their individual hunting experience.

Charter Member Equity:
Charter Members will have 75% equity in their membership. In the event the Charter Member requests to leave the club, the membership is fully transferable to an approved New Charter Member, once the membership is full.

Successor Charter Members:
The Principles will approve the initial twenty-five Charter Members. Successor Charter Members must be approved by the Advisory Board, and will join the club membership as follows:

1. Upon the death or resignation of a Charter Member, his Membership will be available for purchase by the most senior, Annual Member has been approved by the Advisory Board, or by any new member approved by the Advisory Board and the principles, if no present member desires to purchase the Charter Membership, always in the order of the placement of such person on the waiting list.
2. At such time, and only at such time, as the Charter Membership, which becomes available under the preceding paragraph is purchased by a successor Charter Member, will the equity be paid to the retiring member or to his estate, as or, annual members and the Advisory Board may approve such others as for Charter Membership. This club manager shall maintain the list with priority established by date of entry of the proposed Charter Member's name.

Annual Members:
Different from any other Annual Membership hunt club in the area, our members only pay for the birds they bag versus paying for birds to be put in the fields. Our members typically harvest a variety of birds including, Pheasant, Quail, Chukar and an occasional Hungarian during a 4 hour hunt. Depending on the conditions, it is not unusual to see over 100 birds during a hunt.

We are limiting our Annual Membership to seventy-five (75). Each Annual Member will pay annual dues of $2500 and a fee for each bird bagged during their hunt. A minimum fee of $100 per gun will be charged for a hunt, which goes toward their bagged bird costs reported at the end of the hunt.

Current Annual Members will be given a preference for membership renewal. Notice will be sent to them thirty days prior of each year, and will require response and payment of annual fee by one calendar year from sign up date if the member wishes to continue his membership. Annual members will have first right of refusal for available Charter membership slots.

Summary of Annual Membership:

* $2500 Annual Dues
* Complimentary continental breakfast and lunch served in the Club House
* Free Valhalla membership for 1/2 day hunts and dog training fields
* Bluffs hat and vest
* Preference for charter memberships when available
* Bagged birds will be paid for at conclusion of the hunt as follows:
Pheasant/Huns: $24.00
Chukar: $18.00
Quail: $14.00

There will be a minimum hunt charge of $100.00 that will apply towards the birds bagged.
