Immediately, your faithful English Pointer has targeted another fast flying southern quail opportunity. The quietness and solitude of our Florida quail fields welcome you as you cautiously stroll through the tall grass behind a brace of Pointers, Setters or Brittany's.
Re-creating the fine gentlemen's tradition of southern style quail hunting and Florida upland wing shooting is an art form. We are proud to say, we've mastered it. Our quail hunts provide the sportsman with the rare opportunity to shoot at wild birds along with high quality, fast flying released birds. Manicured courses range from grasslands and pineland to scenic water-front fields.
Quail hunting in Florida has gained growing interest over quail hunting in Georgia, to be more specific, quail hunting in South Georgia. Our quail plantation in Florida provides equal opportunities as those quail plantations in Georgia by offering similar terrain and cover for wing shooting as found at other quail plantations. The physical location of our quail plantation takes the issue of country road travel out of the equation. For quail hunting in Florida you could not ask for more of a friendlier location. Bienville Plantation is conveniently located 30 miles south of the Georgia/Florida line just 12 miles off I-75.
At Bienville we can offer quail hunting in Florida from Oct. - March. However, the optimum time for wing shooting is late October - the first week in March. Quail hunting is conducted from the comfort of our customized bird buggies, morning quail hunts generally begin following breakfast around the 9am hour and will end just before lunch. If you are with us for an afternoon quail hunt or going back out for a full day hunt, our professional guides will pick you up from the Main Lodge at approximately 1:45pm.
Our quail plantation hunts provide an excellent activity for individuals, small groups and corporate entertaining. We have seen an increase in companies choosing quail hunting as an activity for corporate retreats, corporate team rewards and corporate sponsored events. We can design programs around the needs of any and we specialize in maximizing available time for corporate sponsored retreats. This provides those clients the rare luxury of being able to build team and customer loyalty in a captive environment.
Your harvested birds will be divided amoung your party, cleaned and packed for your departure. The most often asked question has been "What gauge shotgun should I bring and what shells do you recommend?" That is always a difficult answer because we rent Weatherby but we have seen guests bring Remington Automatics, Parker Side by Sides and Ruger Over-Unders to name a few. As far as the ammunition we provide Fiocchi shells on all buggies, You and your guests will only be charged for those boxes used during your hunt.
Quail Hunting - FAQ's
How many guests can you take out at a time?
We typically take out two guests per buggy with a guide but we can from time to time have three hunters.
Are the birds wild?
We do have some wild coveys but the majority of our birds are fast flying released birds.
Do I need to bring my gun and shells or are they provided?
It is recommended that you bring your own gun. We provide shells on the hunt and you will only be charged for each box used. We also have gun rentals for those guests not able to bring their own. We use 20gg Over and Unders.
What time of the year is best for a hunt?
We can shoot from Oct-March. However, the best time is Late Oct- Early March.
Do I need to pay for bird cleaning?
All bird cleaning and packing is included in the price of the hunt. If you need additional packing containers there will be a minimal charge.
Can you send me my birds?
Yes we can, but only with a credit card or UPS/FedEx account number with a valid shipping address.
What are guides tipped?
Tipping will be up to you. We have seen varying amounts over the years but a gage to go off of is $50.00 for a half day and $100.00 for a full day.
What time do the hunts begin and end?
Morning hunts begin around 8:45-9AM ending at 11:30PM and afternoon hunts begin around 1:45-2PM ending around the 5:00 hour. Full day hunts will begin around 8:45-9AM, break for lunch and will begin again around 2:00 pm ending around the 5:00 hour.
What happens if I or one of my guests shoot a dog by accident?
You or your guest will be charged $3,000.00 for any injury to a canine. We do not negotiate the amount or in what manner it will be paid. That amount will be paid before departure and the hunt will end for that reservation without any refund of the activity.
Do I need a hunting license?
No hunting licenses are required for Quail hunting on Bienville. We have a Blanket Hunting Preserve License for Quail.
