European Shoot
TO BOOK A SHOOT OPENING CALL 620-674-8863. OFFICE HOURS 9-5
Our European shooting program is like no other. Kim Shira, our owner, actually went to Spain to learn how to organize a European shoot. It is so exciting to be able to shoot at hundreds of pheasants. Bring plenty of shells as the bird has the advantage here. THE ONLY THING COMPAREABLE TO THIS IS AN ARGENTINA DOVE SHOOT, BUT THIS IS A LOT CLOSER TO HOME AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS CHEAPER! Pheasants will come flying high above you, some up to 90 yards! Plus they are moving along at a mere 40-45 miles per hour! Our shooting course has 10 stations, so we can take a minimum of 10 shooters, or up to 20 shooters. Most of the shoots are 300-400 or 500 bird shoots. But we can do up to 1500 birds. That’s a lot of shooting for a 3-hour shoot. One group last year shot 846 birds in 3 hours, but they had to spend 4,486 shells doing it! One of the shooters told me, “this was the best 3 hours of my life!” Another group in Feb. 09 did a 1000 bird shoot, downed 750 birds but shot over 7000 shells to do it! But, there is more to a fine quality European shoot than just shooting at pheasants. We add the King’s Feast before the shoot, then we do an orientation meeting with the history of Lord Ripon, the master of European bird shooting. We then introduce the crew of dog handlers and the stars of the show, the trained retrievers. Next, the map of the course is presented and the drawing of the shooting stations. All shooters rotate stations during the shoot. So you will have your time at the famous stands, like “roosters revenge” and “oh, hell!” After the King’s Feast and the orientation is complete, we all load up on the hunt wagon. A short ride later you will arrive at the course where the dog handlers will point the way to your first shooting station. In the center of the course is a 25-foot release tower, which is hidden in thetimber; all you see is trees. The pheasants begin their flight high above the ground, then have 60 yards of flying time before they get to the shooters. It is very challenging for the shooters. Few groups shoot over 70% of the birds. On our first shoot our professional staff spent 756 shells on a 175- bird shoot. They only downed 74 birds that day! They still make excuses for that day, and can’t wait for the next staff shoot. The shooting is so challenging, it is common for 2,000 to 7,000 shells to be spent in three hours! This depends on the number of birds in the shoot. In Dec. of 2008 we had a group from Arkansas shoot 3500 shells and downed 178 birds! They now have two shoots booked for the 2009 season! You must see it to believe it! JUST WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE!
A refreshment break is held halfway through the shoot, mainly to give your shoulder a break! After the shoot, the birds are divided evenly by the number of shooters. They are then breasted by the staff and packaged for your convenience. In an effort to recover all birds hit, we have a trained retriever within sight of each station. As a bonus, all dog handlers have Motorola radios, so you can hear the excitement, excuses, and all the grand “bull” coming from your fellow shooters. Then to finish the day, we make a group photo of all the shooters and the day’s bag. Make sure your hunting buddies are sitting down when you show them a picture of you and hundreds of birds! Compare your bag of birds to those that went to states with a 3 or 4 bird bag limit! Most spent more money but shot less shells and birds. No bag limit here on our field hunts and European shoots. The real fun is at Show Me Birds, that is how it got it’s name. We are not in Missouri the show me state; we show you birds!!
NOTE; YOU DO NOT NEED TO GET A FULL GROUP OF SHOOTERS. ANY NUMBER CAN JOIN A SHOOT THAT IS BOOKED AND HAS OPENINGS. JUST CALL 620-674-8863 FOR SHOOT DATES WITH OPENINGS. OR EMAIL US AND WE CAN SEND YOU A LIST OF OPENINGS.
EUROPEAN SHOOTSMAKE GREAT CORPORATE MEETINGS!
Like I say, our European shoots are like no other. You must try it!
15-bird per person shoot is only $339.00 / pp = 15 BIRDS x 20 SHOOTERS = 300 BIRDS
20-bird per person shoot is only $434.00 / pp = 20 BIRDS x 20 SHOOTERS = 400 BIRDS
25-bird per person shoot is only $533.00 / pp = 25 BIRDS x 20 SHOOTERS = 500 BIRDS
ALL EUROPEAN SHOOTERS ARE REQUIRED TO PAY A $20.00 DOG HANDLER TIP
The only other fee is sales tax and the cost of your hunting license IF YOU NEED ONE. The special license is only $17.50 for a year! Best price in America for a non-resident! We sell Kansas CSA hunting licenses here at the office, but you can buy your license from the Kansas Department of Wildlife website at www.kdwp.state.ks.us, and avoid delays in getting your hunt started. To save time, please apply for your license online before your hunt. SHOOTS ARE HELD ON SATURDAY, SUNDAY ANDMONDAY! Very popular so plan ahead! On most shoots, a good number of birds fly away unhit. Sometimes the farm can be loaded with these bonus birds. The group that hunts this farm “the morning after” may have several bonus birds. The group leader who booked the European shoot will have first chance to book the “cleanup hunt” for the next day. If they choose not to book this hunt, it will then be opened to the membership, then to the public. One group last year shot 71 birds on a 16-bird hunt! Wow, what a great deal for them! Host a shoot and you get the cleanup hunt the next day!
Guided Field Hunts
TRADITIONAL FIELD HUNTS
You have two choices if you are planning a pheasant hunt. You can get a group of hunters together and drive all the way to western Kansas, South Dakota, or Iowa. You all line up in a row and start walking across miles of grain fields (if some farmer will let you hunt) pushing the running pheasants to the end. When the bird gets up (if you see any), everyone shoots (you never know if you got one) and the hunt is over. Or you can drive a lot less to Show Me Birds Hunting Resort, where your farms are waiting for you. Your guide releases several highly trained pointing dogs, you enjoy watching these dogs as much as shooting birds, and yes you will see plenty of birds! You can take turns shooting with your friends and enjoying a day of pheasant hunting the way it should be! Plus most states have a 3 or 4 bird limit; not here! No bag limit at our resort! In todays economy hunters need to do the math before getting in the truck and leaving for a hunt. Let’s use Dallas Tx to central South Dakota as an example. That is an 1800 mile trip, 28 hrs of driving, fuel costs about $240.00, 4-5 nights at a motel $350.00, license $110.00, meals about $150.00, trespass fees to get on the good farms about $200.00 and now fiqure about 5 days off work for hunting and travel time. Compare that to our resort from Dallas Tx. We have 660 miles trip, 11 hrs of driving, fuel costs about $85.00, one night at our motel $70.00 for two (comes with breakfast & free bar), license $17.50, meals are one dinner $20.00, one pm package A hunt and one am package A hunt, and now plan on a one overnight get-a-away; so little time off work. The South Dakota limit is 3 birds a day, here no limit and package A comes with 4 birds a hunt. Add it all up and see that we are HALF PRICE but more birds. Very little time away from work and family. Prices will vary depending on where you live; but I think you get the idea. Hard choice is it not! Oh, don’t forget the dog show here not the walk and block style of hunts! ALL HUNT PACKAGES ARE LISTED BELOW! JUST PICK THE BEST HUNT FOR YOUR NEEDS AND CALL 620-674-8863 OR EMAIL US TODAY!

Few resorts can offer a “no bag limit policy.” They all charge extra fees if you harvest more birds than in your package. NOT AT OUR RESORT! These are birds that are left behind by the hunters before you. Of course we cannot guarantee extra birds will be there. It is based on the shooting skills of the hunters before you, but about 60% of the groups get extra shooting, so it is very common.

Staff
The staff of Show Me Birds Hunting Resort LLC are ready to provide you a hunt of a lifetime. Several of the staff members were here the first day we opened years ago. Owners Kim and Claudette Shira could not be more proud of the fine people that work and help here. From resort manager Danny Barngrover down to weekend volunteers that help here. They all love the resort and are truly excited to see each hunter that walks into the clubhouse. The day by day operation of the resort requires a huge amount of labor. As we operate our own hatchery, feed mill, bird production, farming operation, and guided hunts. We are in control of all aspects of the hunt. It is the only way we can insure the hunt quality, to produce everything ourselves.
Our hunting guides are Dan Barngrover, Bryan Williams, Phil Dockery, Don Brown, Jerry York, Chuck Wren and Jay Morton. These men not only guide hunters they also help with all the bird production duties. They are not “last week’s hunters” like some resorts use for guides. They know the resort operation like it was there own. Many others take part in the quality of the hunting experience here. Such as head cook chantell rather, her meals are known all over america. Plus while you dine in the clubhouse her since of humor will keep a smile on your face! Even the office help of Shalae Elliott, Claudette Shira, and Rodney Oels greets you a big heartly welcome. Not to be forgotten is all the dog handlers that help at the largest European shooting program in America. They train 110 labs all year, just to show them off on the course in front of you.
We could fill 10 web sites with all the wonderful comments we have had about our staff. They are all part of the special hunting experience of show me birds! Come to visit, we will prove it!
Hatchery
We are very proud of the high quality eggs and chicks we produce. Last season we produced over 55,000 birds! We had over 200,000 eggs and shipped eggs and chicks all over the Midwest. Our pheasants are hardy, fast flying , and explosive coming off the ground. They mix with native birds very well, hunters can’t tell the difference. These birds tend to have less body fat during the late season, which keeps them lean and flighty. In our studies here we have also noted less feed consumption. OUR BREEDER FLOCK IS NPIP CERTIFIED AND INSPECTED! Our NEW hatchery can produce over 29,000 chicks a week! As you can see our operation can supply your egg and chick needs. Listed below are the egg and chick prices. Supplies are limited and we sell out every year. Order now, if you want to start with the best pheasant chick available! We can also sell the ‘ Show Me Birds special PRE-MIX which used with grain can produce your own feed! Save thousands in feed costs! We can ship directly to your farm. Call the office for details.
