Our lodge is located one and a half hours north of Wichita, two and a half hours west of Kansas City, and approximately 9 miles southwest of Junction City Kansas, only 7 miles south of I-70. So no matter were you are coming from, getting to our lodge is very easy.
The natural wonders of Northeast Kansas will appeal to everyone regardless of your interest. Whether you are looking for a quiet get away, or for the hunting or fishing trip of a lifetime, Tallgrass Lodge will meet and exceed your expectations. Tallgrass Lodge offers a complete line of consumptive and nonconsumptive outdoor recreational activities. Our luxury fully staffed 8,745 square foot, thirteen-room log lodge is situated on 3000 contiguous acres of pristine Tallgrass prairie, dotted with wooded ravines and crop fields.
We invite you to book one of our hunting or fishing packages, or just book a room for a romantic weekend. You can walk or ride one of our nature trails or you can just stay around the lodge and let our staff pamper you. We can handle any size party from singles to large corporate groups. Come home to Tallgrass Lodge one time and you will be back again and again. Our impeccable service will see to that!
Hunting Tallgrass lodge located in Geary County Kansas sits dead center of the spectacular Flint Hills. The flint hills cover most of northeast Kansas and are made up of tall grass prairies dotted with deep heavily wooded ravines and crop filled lowlands. This juxtaposition of habitats leads to an enormous carrying capacity that supports large amounts of wildlife. When managed correctly this already rich habitat can reach astronomical capacities. This part of the tall grass prairie is well known for monster Whitetail bucks and world class upland bird, turkey, and waterfowl hunting.
We see whitetail bucks in the 150 to 170 class every season and several bucks in the 190 to 200 class have been seen on our properties. Tallgrass Lodge has access to over 5,000 acres of wildlife habitat specifically managed to produce trophy whitetail, and an abundance of upland birds and turkeys. Tallgrass Lodge offers packages to meet every need from a no services package where you handle everything to luxury packages designed to satisfy even the most demanding guest.
Upland
Kansas offers some of the best upland bird hunting in the world. At Tallgrass Lodge, we have access to over 5,000 acres of prime upland habitat.
You can choose to hunt our wild Ringneck Pheasant, Bobwhite Quail, and Greater Prairie chickens or you can hunt Ringneck Pheasant and Bobwhite Quail on our controlled shooting area and take advantage of more liberal bag limits.
Either way you are sure to enjoy the legendary upland hunting that has made Kansas famous.
Dove
Mourning doves have become the most popular game bird in the country. More shells are expended during the opening weekend of dove season then are expended during the entire upland season.
It is not only a challenging and exciting hunt but more importantly, it marks the opening of the hunting season. These birds offer the most challenging shooting experience you will find anywhere hands down.
Seasoned shooters will only hit 50% of the birds they shoot at, whether they want to admit it or not. This is especially true later in the season when these birds have been dodging lead through most of their migration. They can do a dance on the air that will leave your head spinning.
If you love being out in the dove fields in September with friends and family then by all means please come and join us. We’ll save you a great spot.
Turkey
Records say the first wild turkeys were reintroduced into eastern Kansas in 1939. It wasn’t until the establishment of the 1960’s turkey restoration program that the population began to take off, and did they ever take off. You can’t drive through Eastern Kansas without seeing a flock of turkeys feeding in agricultural fields.
Our turkey packages are one on one or two on one fully guided hunts. Our highly skilled guides will do the calling for you or you can help with the calling the choice is yours.
Our 5,000 acres are loaded with free roaming wild turkeys. We have mostly Eastern wild turkeys but it is not uncommon to see an a Rio or Eastern-Rio cross.
Those of you that have experience with the Eastern Wild Turkey know that they are one of the easiest turkey species to call. They are very boisterous and respond very well to the call. We keep our hunting pressure low insuring an exciting encounter with these elusive big game animals.
Waterfowl
Northeast Kansas sits on the eastern edge of the central flyway. Quite a few hunters have been traveling to northeast Kansas in the last few years to take advantage of the many different waterfowl hunting opportunities available.
We have access to wetlands, ponds, reservoirs, and river stretches that attract and hold an abundance and great variety of waterfowl. You will mostly be harvesting puddle ducks but we can arrange for you to chase divers late in the season when our guides are available.
We can also arrange goose hunts for Canada and Snow Geese by request. If you have a species you are interested in harvesting let us know and we will try and schedule your hunt for their arrival.
If you don’t have a lot of experience calling or hunting waterfowl don’t worry about it. Our very experienced guides will be very happy to show you the ropes.
