Ah, those memories that we all have of the uplands and wetlands. Kansas is one of this nation's "Last Best Places" and it offers pheasant, quail, prairie chicken, duck, goose, and abundant dove.
Don and his guides can show you and yours a day to remember. It takes more than a bagged limit and wide open spaces to make a memorable day afield. According to most traveling sportsmen, it takes a great guide who knows the resource and delivers it to his clients with a taste of local flair and personality. Don Zahourek puts 100% of himself into making certain that you and your group have that trip of a lifetime. Past clients tend to remember Don's personality and easy going sense of humor. He has a natural talent for making the stresses of the world fall away as sportsmen and ladies, hunt 8,000 acres of private CRP, cropland, and river bottom leased to offer the best types of habitat for upland birds and waterfowl.
Those visiting Don to hunt will be amazed at the variety of wide open spaces that they will experience. Don has access to literally hundreds of acres of prime, leased hunting ground which consists of crop-harvested farm ground, grassland, creeks, and rivers. And, that is not counting the many thousands of acres making up the Glen Elder State Park hunting area surrounding Waconda Lake.
The views to the horizon in all directions, the fresh air, and your soon gained feeling of unbound freedom will be worth your trip alone!
Extended Hunting & Shooting Opportunities…
To further your opportunities beyond the regular state regulated season (2nd Saturday in November through January 31) and 4 bird daily limit, Don can show you an abundance of early released pheasants in Controlled Shootings Areas (CSA). Heart pounding flushes of 100 plus birds will convince you they
can be as wily as the native birds. The extended season on the CSA runs from September 1st through March 31. While most other guide services utilizing CSAs match their state limits, Don goes an extra step by providing a 6 bird limit. (Extra birds can be shot on the CSA for additional cost.)
Additionally, Don can also provide you the opportunity to try your luck at "Sporting Clays." Shooting at clays might cause your gun barrel to get red-hot with excitement while testing and improving your shotgun skills! This is something to look forward to.
Sporting life is alive and well in America and Kansas is a sportsman's paradise.
Good Times & Good Friends…
When the day is done and the guns are stored, it's time to relive the hits and misses, time to spin a yarn or tow, you know lie like we hunters sometimes do.
The private homey accommodations are par with the great gunning. Our comfortable lodge houses can sleep up to 24 people. Each group has a private house with comfortable beds and a full kitchen. This is your home away from home while hunting and fishing with our family.
For those of you who would rather dine on the local fare, we can arrange for some of the most mouth watering home cooked meals you could ever imagine.
You grow up, venture far and wide, and they tell you "Ya can't ever go back home." Experience the local hospitality, the home style cooking and a day afield with Don and his guides and you might pass on the good old days.
What's Included and…How To Book
Spend a day of incredible hunting in north central Kansas and a relaxing night in one of Don's Lodge houses. The houses are fully equipped with kitchens, and come with towels, linens, and outdoor gas grills. The only thing it's missing is your group and a poker game around the kitchen table. You will also enjoy the comfort of Don's "Bird Cleaning Facility." Standing around with buddies, laughing, talking, cleaning your birds in a warm friendly environment, will only add more memories to your adventure.

All the guys are really looking forward to another great pheasant hunt this year. You know, I have lost track of how many years we have been coming up, but each hunt has been outstanding. I don’t know how you keep doing it year after year but you do. Most of our group has had the opportunity to hunt all over the U.S. and all of us think you provide the absolute best hunting experience that money can buy. The lodges are great, your dogs are the best any of us have ever hunted with and you are the hands down best guide in Kansas. Most importantly, we appreciate your friendship. You have become like a member of the family. You fit right in which, depending on how you look at it, may not be a good thing :>). I think we will have a few more guys than we did last year. I will get a firm number and let you know. Our group just keeps growing. I tell people that it is the best pheasant hunting there is but they really don’t get it until they actually experience it. Once they come up they are hooked for life. Well, we will see you in a couple of months. If you get any free time bring the family back down to Branson.
Thanks-- Rick-- Branson, MO
I just wanted to thank you for the two Great trips that I had! All of the guys that have been up there are very impressed with your operations, and we all had a really wonderful time fishing with you...Verle was jus there in the bait shop and I asked him if he was interested in making a trip up there later on in the year. He said, "Yes!" ...so I guess that you can be expecting us again, at least one more time this year....I have given your card to several others here in Newton, so I would not be surprised if some more of my friends will give you a call. I have nothing to say about your place, except good things. Hope that you don't mind me sending some business your way!
Thanks again-- Jerry-- Newton, Kansas
Dropping you a quick note thanking you for the great hunt on Friday & Saturday. Between the multiple fields that you have access to, the great dog work, and the outstanding meals that were served, I could not imagine a better way to enjoy my first Kansas Pheasant hunt. You and Cheryl should be very proud of the operation that you have. I’m already looking forward to next year!

What a great experience. Lots of Roosters with incredible dog work in beautiful Kansas grass. Excellent shooting by myself of course, with the exception of a few that were simply too close to kill. I must admit that I haven't been a big fan of guided hunts but hunting with Don was like hunting with an old friend. Thanks for everything and see you next year.

Don & Cheryl- you probably get tons of emails like this, but I thought Cheryl might want a few of these pictures so better safe than sorry! We had a great time, and I'm already looking forward to 2007!
