About Premier Flight Guide Service
I have been an avid hunter since I was a teenager. Goose hunting became a passion of mine early on. I got an opportunity to guide for the first guide service that opened in Rochester in 1982, at the prime age of 19.
I guided for 5 years for that service. Being out every day of the hunting season taught me quickly how to kill geese in any situation. In 1996 I took over the Rochester Goose Hunting from Mark Leitzen and have been on my own ever since. I also enjoy turkey, deer and pheasant hunting very much with any free time that I get.
Come give us a try! We look forward to seeing you in the fall.

About Rochester Goose Hunting

The saga of the geese began in 1947 after a flock of 12 large geese from Nebraska were released at Silver Lake. These geese, donated by a former Mayo Clinic patient, lured some of the few remaining giant Canada geese to Rochester. In 1948, after Rochester's new power plant began using Silver Lake for cooling water, the geese started staying on the ice-free lake throughout the winter. The geese began arriving each September, and by late November, they had settled in for the winter.
Some people believed that the Rochester flock was "special." Biologists confirmed that belief in 1962 when the geese were identified as Branta Canadensis Maxima (giant Canada geese.) This sub-spas eat geese was believed to be extinct until Rochester's flock was discovered during a routine visit for banding and weighing.
Although similar to normal Canadian "honkers," the giant Canadas carry a few distinct differences from Western Canadians: they have longer necks, broader bills, and lighter plumage. Also, the average giant Canada weighs more (12 to 14) pounds compared with 8) and has a larger wing span (69 to 71 inches compared within 66.)
Rochester offers some of the most consistent goose hunting in the state, with an average annual migration of nearly 75,000 geese. Up to 35,000 geese will stage on Silver Lake on any given day, providing for fast action peaking in mid November through late December.
Rochester Goose Hunting Fields
Huge flights of giant Canada geese are a common sight in the skies over Rochester, Minnesota. For large numbers of local and visiting hunters, the huge numbers of geese are an amazing site. The hunters watch with interest as the geese travel each day from their roost in the Refuge out to the feeding fields surrounding Rochester.
The entire town of Rochester is a state game refuge and the huge numbers of giant Canada geese reflect the positive effect of the refuge. Each year thousands of geese seek refuge in the area and many thousands more arrive each fall during their fall migration.
Goose hunters and local guides closely watch the giant Canada geese from nearby grain fields, weedy fence-lines, road-side blinds, and any other place where the big waterfowl regularly fly and can be legally hunted.
Premier Flight Has The Goose Hunting Fields
In the early season the geese will make as short of a trek as possible out to feeding fields in the surrounding area. The geese will quickly change to different fields as the season wears on and they see their fair share of hunting pressure.
Premier Flight is the only guide service that offers 18 fields to hunt. Typically, other services have 2 or 3. By having this many spots, we can more easily locate to where the geese are flying.
We have fields that are consistent early and as the geese move out to the exterior, we have fields farther out to accommodate late season hunting. No one else has our level of accommodations.
The Big Difference
You may ask why should I hunt with Premier Flight, how are we different than other guide services?
Premier Flight is the only guide service that offers 18 fields to hunt. Typically, other services have 2 or 3. By having this many spots, we can more easily locate to where the geese are flying.
We have fields that are consistent early and as the geese move out to the exterior, we have fields farther out to accommodate late season hunting. No one else has these accommodations to the degree we do.
Also with having the access to all these fields, we have instilled a policy that if your hunting with us and it was a poor day, we give you an option to hunt the afternoon with us or come back another day at a reduced rate.
Obviously you can’t guarantee hunting success every time you hunt, but we feel very confident with our success in the past and our commitment to our hunters. We can ensure you the best hunting opportunities in the state.
Goose Hunting
On a typical day of hunting you will arrive at the designated field 30 minutes prior to shooting time. This will give you a chance to get situated in the hunting pits and your guides can answer any questions you may have pertaining to the hunt. We generally hunt until noon, however as the weather turns colder, we may hunt later, because the birds have a tendency to fly later. Your opinions and our guides discretion will determine the length of the hunt.
Safety is the primary ingredient for any successful goose hunt. Our guides use a buzzer system, so everyone comes up shooting at the same time. We encourage hunters to get involved with the hunt. We can always use some help in the field.
With the use of Big Foot™ goose decoys, state of the art techniques and experienced callers, our professional guides will make this an unforgettable hunting experience.

A few of our guides spend upwards of 120 days in the field each year and they will put your on the geese.
Whether you seek the Giant Canadian Geese in the fall or the millions of migraging Spring Snow Geese in the early spring - we have packages for you.
Snow Goose Hunting
Our spring snow goose hunts start in NW Missouri in the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge. This area is a major staging area for migrating birds. We follow the birds through Nebraska near Adams NE, then up to South Dakota near the Lake Thompson area. We have upwards of 10 to 15 fields per state to go after these wary birds.
These snows move feeding grounds often. We like to stay one step ahead of them so we have a guide every day who scouts for the next days hunt. Because the weather plays a significant role in the success of the hunt, we highly recommend that you book a 2 to 3 day hunt to maximize your hunting success. We have state of the art electronic caller systems and our fields have huge spreads with lay-down blinds or pits. We typically hunt 6 clients per field.
