Ponderosa Ranch, our 3300 acre Nebraska working cattle ranch, is located 70 miles south of the Black Hills of South Dakota. Our ranch boasts of a rugged beauty in its diversity; spectacular views in every direction, open rolling grass meadows, steep hills, ridges studded with Ponderosa pine trees, canyons with Green Ash, Hackberry and Cottonwood lining the creek bottoms.

This makes a challenging terrain for the hunter or horseback rider but a haven for mule deer and Merriam turkey. This same terrain provides excellent opportunities for archery, muzzleloader and rifle hunters.
Merriam's Turkey Hunting The Ponderosa Ranch offers semi-guided hunting on this scenic 3,300-acre working ranch which is on top of the Pine Ridge area of Northwest Nebraska. Our package includes up to 5 nights, 5 meals, and 4 days of semi-guided hunting. For the shotgun season, we can handle one or two groups of 2 to 4 hunters. If there are two groups, each group will have one end of the ranch entirely to themselves.

Semi-guided means that we will drive you around the ranch to show you where fences, gates, stock tanks/creeks and boundary fences are. Plan to arrive at the Ponderosa Ranch early afternoon (during daylight) the day before your hunt starts. You will be provided with a topographic ranch map. The headquarter area is situated in the center of the ranch. You can either walk from the cabin to hunt, or may need a 4x4 vehicle
Nebraska Merriam turkey hunting is a great outdoor adventure. The Pine Ridge area of Nebraska is prime turkey habitat with its pine covered ridges, open meadows and tree lined creek bottoms. Nebraska turkey hunters love the challenge of finding the turkey roosting trees, and locating the turkey activity. The wild turkey gobbling provides the back ground music.
Hunting turkeys on this Nebraska ranch is challenging because of the terrain and also because the turkey are cautious and smart. However, hunters who have patience and cunning have a good chance to bag a Nebraska Merriam’s turkey, and get that grand slam. Ponderosa Ranch with its home cooking and family atmosphere create great memories for Nebraska hunters.
