North Carolina Hunting
Fully insured and can supply certificate of insurance upon request
Whether it’s your intention to bag a trophy buck, wild turkey, dove, quail, pheasant, chukar, or just do some duck shooting, Huckleberry Ridge Hunting Preserve can accommodate you. Our pine ridges and hardwood bottomland along the banks of the Tar River, Fishing Creek, and Deep Creek provide superior habitat for a variety of ducks, dove, pheasant, wild turkey and whitetail deer. We maintain a variety of food plots to attract both wildlife indigenous to our region of northeastern North Carolina and migratory species, as well. We limit our turkey and deer hunts to maintain our population. Over the past three years in our development of the hunting preserve, we’ve only allowed two toms to be taken and this year we're setting our limit to five. We have built up our Whitetail deer population, too, and plan to hunt 15-inch spread or better bucks and some does this next season. If it's predator hunts you're interested in, we can arrange those too, just give us a call!
Upland Bird Hunting
When you're finished with your early morning duck hunting, as long as you've got the dogs all warmed up, it's a great time to take advantage of our vast acreage available for upland game bird hunting. Our pine ridges mixed with fields of perennial grasses, lespedeza, milo, and small grains, are the perfect environment for Quail and Pheasant.
So, come on out, stretch your legs and let the dogs loose to chase out some birds! It's a great hunt for a group of friends or corporate function.

Dove Hunting
We look forward to the first of September here at Huckleberry Ridge, because it means that it's time to have our Opening Day Dove Hunts! Each summer we work the fields to maintain all the proper food sources that these little grayish-brown migratory game birds love: corn, milo, sunflowers, oats, popcorn, and a variety of melon patches, including cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon, and each fall it pays off - big time!
We invite interested dove hunters to come to the preserve prior to the North Carolina Opening Day Dove Hunting season, so that they can peruse the property to select and reserve the field that they'd like to hunt. Bring your ATVs and have some fun riding around while you scout out the perfect spot for the hunt that you've been waiting for all year!
We only sell 150 tickets to each of our Opening Day Dove Hunts*, which fall on Labor Day and the preceding Saturday each year, so buy your tickets early! Show up early to get the best of the barbeque feast we'll have prepared, bring your dogs and ATVs and let's shoot some doves!
Waterfowl Hunting
Hog Island Point is located off the coast of Cedar Island between Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. This area of North Carolina’s Inner Banks is a mecca for waterfowl, including Brant, Tundra Swan, Canada Geese, Pintails, Scaup (bluebills), Redheads, Canvasbacks, and sea ducks. Our coastal waters, marshes, and ponds make it a water fowler’s dream boasting a variety of diving ducks and puddlers. Hunts can be arranged for you and your guests in our four duck blinds, each accommodating three people. The private island is accessible only by boat, which we can provide. There is a house on the island, and while we don’t house people in it at this point in time, it’s good for getting warm, eating, and getting out of the (hopefully) bad weather!
The Tar River is a river that is approximately 346 kilometers (215 miles) long, of northeast North Carolina flowing generally southeast to an estuary of Pamlico Sound.
Our acreage along the Tar River in Tarboro, NC consists of scattered beaver ponds, swamps, wooded marshes with flooded timber, and waterside grasslands that are great for getting a mixed bag of puddle or dabbling ducks, including Mallards and Wood Ducks (Woodies). You'll also have the opportunity to hunt other wild inland ducks such as Widgeon, Black Ducks, Teal, Ring-necks, Gadwall, and an occasional Pintail. Dependant on your hunt date, you might have the chance to harvest a Tundra Swan along with Canadian Geese. We also offer released Mallard duck hunts for your shooting enjoyment, at $25 per duck with no limit.
Turkey Hunting
The Sawtooth, White and Overcup Oak trees that make up our hardwood bottomland along the banks of the Tar River, Fishing Creek, Swift Creek, and Deep Creek here in Edgecombe county, North Carolina, provide a superior habitat for wild turkey, offering a natural food source and safe roosting sites. We also maintain a variety of food plots, including chufa, a spring mix of small grains along with numerous clover ridges for bugging and strutting areas to attract and maintain a heavy wild turkey population.
