Trophy Deer
One thing you will notice at the Selman ranch is that we are very personable and love to visit and have a good time. We carry that philosophy over to our hunting operation. We do not have more than 6-8 hunters at the ranch during our deer seasons. Last year, opening rifle weekend, we had 6 hunters and all the hunters were seeing 6-12 bucks per day. The Selman ranch has been managing for larger bucks every year. During the 2003 rifle season, we were seeing more ten point bucks than any smaller bucks. That is a true testament to our management practices. We are continually upgrading the quality of our food plots. We will be planting oats, wheat, and alfalfa this year - weather allowing. Also, the ranch is bordered by wheat fields and other crops to ensure nutrition to our deer year around. We are adding blinds every year. We offer wood blinds, enclosed and heated blinds, and also tree blinds to raise your chances at seeing the buck you would want to take home.
The Lodging at the ranch is some of the best you will find. There is nothing better then waking up in the morning and seeing deer out in the front pasture and in the yard. The abundant wildlife is all around you!
Gary Lantz, in a deer hunting story appearing in the National Journal of the National Rifle Association of two boys (Jake 9 and Josh 11) and their father:
"The weather was windy, yet not exceptionally cold the Friday following Thanksgiving when Jake and Josh arrived at the game-rich Selman Ranch- 14,000 acres of native prairie nestled amid the breaks separating northwest Oklahoma's Buffalo Creek and the broad valley of the Cimarron River. Sue Selman runs a trophy deer, turkey and quail hunting operation..." "...Josh soon brought down a buck of his own, ...just a little bit bigger than the deer Jake had shot the afternoon before."

Bob White Quail Hunts
Come and enjoy wild Bob White Quail hunting at it's best. From rolling sagebrush covered hills to the plum and sumac thickets of the creek bottoms. Our quail are wild native birds. We have implemented a conservation program to improve all wildlife habitat at the ranch; from decreasing the number of cattle to a rotational grazing program, to food plots and riparian improvements.
- 2 day hunts or longer are available - Meals and lodging are available, but are not included in the price of the hunt.
Duck Hunts
Selman Ranch has excellent habitat for migratory birds. We offer more than 10 ponds and 2 lakes that are ducks favorite. We also have miles of creeks, which if you are a waterfowl hunter you will know they hold a lot of Mallards. We are in the Central Flyway.
Book your hunt early.
Meals and lodging are available, but are not included in the price of the hunt.
Pheasant Hunts
The Selman Ranch does have native pheasant and we are seeing more and more every year. You are welcome to come out and do a little bird hunting. Another great opportunity is to hunt native quail and pheasant. With the low bag limits of Oklahoma it makes that much more sense to do a combo hunt. You could also do a waterfowl hunt with your Pheasant hunt. You can tailor a hunt to your preferences.

Dove Hunts
We provide a limited number of dove hunts that are available on a first come, first serve basis. Dove season as you can see in the pictures to your left is an awesome season at the ranch. It is a great opportunity to improve your shot gunning and your dog. Remember to bring lots of shells and some padding for your shoulder.

Meals and lodging are available, but are not included in the price of the hunt.
Turkey Hunts
We provide hunts for both spring and fall turkey. We also provide hunts to test your own skills hunting the Rio Grand Turkey. We have a large population of turkeys. We limit our Turkey hunts on a yearly basis to ensure a good group of birds for the next year. The ranch is perfect for a set up of decoys and then calling in the big boy yourself. Of course we will not send you out blind. We will give you directions and some ideas on travel patterns and last sightings. Come join our experienced callers on a Selman Ranch hunt to remember. Bag the trophy gobbler of your dreams!
One of the management practices of the Selman Ranch is one gobbler per hunter in the Spring. This will ensure hunting for future hunting and also allow you to take your time and pick the bird you are you like the most. Also, lodging is included in our Turkey hunts. The lodging and food is one of the best parts of the hunt. Also in the spring it is not uncommon for a Gobbler to be your wake up call. Walking out the door of the lodge you more than likely catch a gobbler out in the front pasture doing his morning strut. Come out and see for yourself!

Specialty Hunts
In addition to our regular hunting, we do offer Specialty hunts for those looking for the opportunity to experience our native hunting. For a hunt a bit more on the wild side try our Predator Hunt for coyote or bobcat. For those completely living on the edge we also offer the Rattlesnake hunts.
Meals and lodging are available, but are not included in the price of the hunt.

About our Ranch
The original Selman Ranch was established by J.O. and Lena Ernest Selman. J.O. and Lena both came to Northwest Oklahoma in the late 1800's. Lena's family came from Missouri in a covered wagon settling near freedom. J.O. came from a somewhat famous family in Texas. His Uncle John Selman killed the famous gunfighter John Wesley Hardin. J.O. ran away from home at the age of fourteen, joining a cattle drive that brought him to Oklahoma. He was known as "Jimmy Few Clothes", because all he had were the clothes on his back. J.O. proceeded to build a small ranching empire of over 65,000 acres.
Bob Selman, J.O. and Lena's son, along with his wife Wilma, established the ranch here on buffalo creek and the West side of the infamous Cimmaron River. Near the Cimmaron is the old Ghost Town of Salt Springs where local legend has it that the last Bank Robbery on Horseback occurred.
Due to the size of the ranch and the rugged terrain along the Cimmaron River and Buffalo Creek, we have a variety of hunting available.
We have converted the Bunkhouse's into comfortable lodging for our guests. We invite you to come and enjoy our Ranch and the fine hunting facilities we offer.
Happy Hunting! D.S. Selman
