We have been farming since 1980 and have guided pheasant hunters each year since. To make your South Dakota pheasant hunting experience complete, we have a new lodge that was built in 2003 and is over 4,000 square ft. with a 32 X 40 great room on the upper level. But we know what you really come for, "The Hunt." Our pheasant hunts are in a variety of cover including milo, corn, sudan grass, cattails, tree belts and winding natural waterways and draws.
Much of the land west of the Missouri River is marginal farmland and is not planted fence line to fence line. Because of the natural terrain and conservation practices such as CRP and shelter belts, the native pheasants flourish. With over 6000 acres to hunt you will have many lasting memories. We hear many comments on how well the fields are laid out. Buffalo Butte Ranch is a privately owned and operated farm which has been in our family for four generations. This is something we take great pride in considering today's climate of mergers, corporate farming and 2nd party investors.
We are truly a "hands on" host and will make every effort we can to see to it that your stay is everything and more than you expected.
With literally tens of thousands of choices out there for pheasant hunting you have to be asking yourself; what is so different about Buffalo Butte Ranch than the rest? We, along with our past guest, think we have something very special here.
For one thing is the location. We are located in the best of the best of locations for pheasants. This can be substantiated by the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks annual pheasant counts. That’s where the tag name "Golden Triangle" comes from.
Another reason for choosing Buffalo Butte is our setting. None of our past hunting groups have left without remarking over and over how tranquil and beautiful the area is. From the breathtaking sunsets over the buttes to the simplistic beauty of the rolling prairie, your thoughts will return again and again to your stay at Buffalo Butte.
One more reason might be our new lodge. It has sleeping to accommodate full hunting parties of 20 guest, bathroom for each bedroom, full kitchen with home cooked western cuisine. Two levels for entertainment, great room with fire place upper level, and pool table on the lower level with satellite TV on each level. For the guest who might want a little faster paced night time entertainment we are just 20 minutes from “Dallas” which is as big a drawing point for some as is the world class pheasant hunting.

THE PHEASANT HUNT AT BUFFALO BUTTE RANCH
Season dates Oct.21 - Dec.31 and 3 cock pheasant per day limit.
Your hunt at Buffalo Butte Ranch includes: Professional guides, professionly trained dogs(pointers and flushers), lodging and daily maid service, excellent home cooked meals, pheasant processing and freezing, transportation while on hunt, clay trap shoot, and shells.
The Pheasant Hunter Must Provide: Transportation to/from Buffalo Butte Ranch, (Gregory or Winner airport pickup availible), coolers, licence (available locally) and guns.
Exclusive Hunts: All of our pheasant hunts are exclusive hunts. We let you choose your own friends and who you want to hunt with. For that reason, we prefer to book parties of 12 or more. For smaller, private hunts, rates will be negotiated. You are welcomed to bring your own dogs, provided all shots are current.
Sharptail grouse, coyote calling and prairie dog hunting can be arranged.
SAFETY
As with any sport, hunting has its risks. The risks can be greatly minimized with some simple safety rules. If everyone abides by these simple rules, then we can have a fun-filled hunt!

Lodging At Buffalo Butte Ranch

The Buffalo Butte lodge is a brand new lodge that is over 4,000 square ft. with a 32 X 40 great room on the upper level and a walk-out basement that boasts its own game room. The open front of the great room offers a fantastic view of the Dakota prairie. After an exciting days hunt, you can warm up in front of the fireplace. The lodge can sleep twenty guests with each bedroom having its own bathroom. Dining will be in the upper level of the lodge where the home cooked meals will be prepared. It also has a wrap around deck for you to sit and enjoy the beautiful South Dakota sunsets. Many guests will also enjoy sitting around and trading stories at our outside fire pit.
The lodge is built at the base of the Buffalo Butte which is rich in Native American history. The Native American’s belief is that their birth place was the Buffalo Butte cave located at the top of the Butte and on our property. Legend also has it that a white buffalo cow and calf entered the cave and has yet to return. The white buffalo is very sacred to the Native American culture. This Indian folk lore of the Buffalo Butte’s pre-date Lewis and Clark. Within minutes hiking distance from the front door you can view the same unchanged grandeur that Lewis and Clark experienced two hundred years ago. On the side of the Buffalo Butte are two “name rocks” with names and dates that go back as early as 1808. The lodge contains many artifacts we have collected over the years from the farm ground surrounding the lodge.
The experience you, your friends or your clients will leave with will be everlasting.
