South Dakota Pheasant Hunting

South Dakota pheasant hunting at its finest.
If your goal is to experience some of the best wild pheasant hunting available today, I encourage you to give us a call soon!
Our emphasis is on fewer total hunters, more amenities, plenty of old-fashioned service and superior shooting in a genuine sportsman's atmosphere. We try to cover every detail and go the extra mile to be sure your experience is much more than a quick "shoot."
We are proud of our population of wild upland game birds, maintained by stocking wild pheasants heavily earlier in the season, raising wild broods, and carrying over Ringneck Pheasant populations by providing deep, dense cover to protect them. Indications for 2007 show a record number of our ring-necked upland game birds carried over from last year.
While we offer several different hunting options, our major emphasis on each bird hunt is always on pheasants. Plenty of shooting and full limits are standard fare. Each hunt is customized according to the size and specific desires of the party. No group is too large or too small.

Preserve Licenses
| Spring Lake Hunting Lodge and Resort has pursued an aggressive pheasant restoration agenda. Our program begins in very early spring with the release of mature hens to mate with native males. We follow this by raising and releasing upwards of 1500 birds in mid through late summer. By the time hunting season rolls around, our released birds have had plenty of time to mix in with native birds and filter our through our dense habitat.
The releases we do enable us to maintain our hunting preserve. This, in turn, allows us to liberalize the daily limits and to extend shooting hours for selected hunts. In the big picture this is a very small part of our operation, but it definitely has some real advantages.
Pheasant Hunting Conditions
| Blockers are used in many of the fields making the last hundred yards of a drive as exciting as it gets. Don't be surprised to see fifty to a hundred birds in the sky all at the same time. Your hunt can be a rigorous as you decide to make it. Choose to walk the top on the high draws or simply block the ever-active corners.
Our predominant hunting style is with Lab's using the Walker and Blocker technique. Get ready to see hundreds of wild birds every day boiling out of the food plots. Enjoy classic walk up shooting over pointers.
Size of Groups
| With the quality, quantity and diversity of our habitat you can customize your hunt to fit your own style. If you're a small party (less than 6) or a larger corporate group of 20 + we have what it takes to make sure you always have a quality experience in the field.
In addition to corporate hunts, family hunts are a great way to celebrate special occasions.
Habitat

Pheasant Hunting Packages
| We offer a premium package of guided pheasant hunting and unique lodging here in South Dakota, the undisputed Pheasant Hunting Capital of the World.
Dogs and bringing your own Dog
| All hunts are fully guided with excellent bird dogs. We maintain our own kennels provide our own hunting dogs. A hunting guide and dog handler will be with the pheasant hunters at all times. Dogs are used to help find and flush birds and to retrieve bagged game birds. Hunters may arrange to bring their own hunting dogs and use them in conjunction with, or instead of, our dogs by prior arrangement and pending availability of space in our kennel. During peak season we will have as many as 17 of our dogs on premises for great pheasant hunting.
Field Transportation
| Pheasant hunting is physical, and requires a fair amount of walking in heavy cover. Transportation between fields is done with specially equipped vehicles that accommodate hunters, their equipment, and bird dogs. Arrangements may be made for those needing less physical demands.
Huge numbers of wild birds, private and breathtaking landscapes, and exceptional hunting guides all contribute to the premium pheasant hunting experience here at Spring Lake Hunting Lodge and Resort.

Our property is located in the prairie pot hole region and produces large numbers of local ducks. The Waterfowl Upgrade is $289 per day/per hunter and is easily accomplished with the vast array of potholes & sloughs that our located on our property.
South Dakota requires a Nonresident application to be submitted by July 15th, for the lottery drawing on waterfowl licenses. Call us for details on this.
South Dakota Waterfowl Hunting Information (from the SD Game Fish and Parks)
The morning starts with hot coffee and a sumptuous country style breakfast. Then off for the waterfowl hunting. Most hunting will be done over decoys with a guide to assure everyone's safety and a quality hunt. We will be hunting mostly ducks and Canada Geese with a slight chance of some snows, blues, white fronts, or ross. When the Northern Mallards come through they are an exciting bonus while waiting for the geese.
Ponds and sloughs located on our farm land provide habitat for excellent duck and goose hunting. Must apply early for this hunt. Applications are available late May. Deadline for SD Non-Resident Waterfowl Application is mid June. Contact us for application information or visit the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, & Parks.
