QUAIL AND CHUCKAR HUNTING
Quail and Chukar hunting is one of the most popular sports at Gopher Plantation. Come and experience a rewarding hunt with our expert guides and well trained dogs. Our quail population consists of wild quail. pre-released birds (one - three months) and recently released birds. Your dogs are welcome. Many of our hunters use the sporting clay range to sharpen their shooting skills prior to hunting.
DUCK/GOOSE HUNTS
The Gopher Plantation has recently added a special Duck/Goose hunt and a Pheasant hunt. Although this is the first season for each, the availability of game and hunter success has been excellent. We will be expanding these special hunting experiences and are expecting even stronger participation and success during the remainder of the current season and next season.

TURKEY HUNTS
The 2006 Wild Turkey season is just beginning and it should be one of the best ever. The population of mature Gobblers is higher than ever before and many large Toms sporting 11' - 12' beards have been spotted. We are also observing strong gobbling early this year. The guides are out in the field every morning and evening scouting for roosting and strutting areas and they are finding an increased population of both gobblers and hens. They are also observing a higher than normal amount of gobbler fighting. The birds are in all the traditional hotspots as well as having established some new courting areas. It is apparent that the favorable conditions during 2005 have produced a bumper crop of heavy birds with long beards. We are very confident that we will see more birds and bigger birds taken this season. There is no doubt that the early season will be strong. Book your hunt today and guarantee yourself a trophy Gopher Plantation gobbler.
If you are looking for the perfect opportunity to test or hone your turkey calling skill, this season is the time and The Gopher Plantation is the place. You can hunt with a guide and let him call 'em in or you can try your luck solo. If you haven't called one in before, but think that you are ready, you should consider using one of our expert guides for your first Gopher Plantation gobbler and go after the second one on your own. Another option is a combo turkey/wild boar hunt. The success rate for each is nearly 100% so you can expect that rush of adrenalin when you and your quarry close the distance and you prepare to drop the hammer.
The typical adult gobbler will have a minimum 10" beard and 1 3/16" spurs. Many of these mature birds will have beards exceeding 12" and spurs of 1 1/2". The gobbler/hen ratio is also higher than normal meaning that there will be many lonesome gobblers looking for hens when the season starts. This should be an outstanding season to bag that trophy bird.
The Gopher Plantation is noted for it's high success rate in harvesting long-beards, long spurs and heavy toms. This one is typical of what you expect to see on your hunt.
MONSTER BUCKS!
The Gopher Plantation QDM and feeding program are yielding great results and we have spotted numerous monster bucks during the pre-season. Several weeks of hot, dry weather during the peak of the rut in 2005 resulted in fewer bucks harvested than normal. As a result, more good bucks remain for the 2006 - 2007 season. Several bucks in the 150+ B&C class have been spotted and the 2006 - 2007 season is shaping up to be the best on record for these monster 150+ class bucks.
In addition the newly acquired 17-mile River tract is now fully developed for deer and hog hunting. This property was hunted the last two seasons on a limited basis and several good bucks and hogs were taken. The hunting areas on this property has been significantly expanded along the river and we expect it to yield some impressive bucks in the upcoming season. This property also supports a large free ranging hog population which is available to deer hunters as a free bonus. The property along the 17-mile River was inaccessible for the last twenty years but there are now several new stands along the river in areas that have not been previously hunted. The lucky hunters who draw these stands may very well have a shot at that buck of lifetime.

Gopher Plantation has over 50 deer stands. These stands are strategically located near food plots. Stands have sides, tops and comfortable chairs. Some stands easily accommodate three chairs which are ideal for parent-child hunts. Our expert Guides escort all hunters. Over the last three seasons, 40% of our hunters harvested an 8-point or better. Good luck hunting this year and we hope to see you soon! View of the Big Field from the deer stand. This location has consistently been one of the most productive stands on the plantation. The "Big Field" is surrounded by a creek bottom on one side, hardwood forest on another and pine forest on the other sides. The field is also adjacent to planted agricultural fields. The "Big Field" is planted in various green field foods including clover and rye grass and is a favorite feeding spot for the deer population.
BOAR HUNTS
The Gopher Plantation has added the exciting experience of Wild Boar hunting. A few years ago we acquired several hundred acres of prime Wild Boar habitat adjacent to the original Gopher Plantation and have developed that parcel exclusively for Wild Boar hunting. The Gopher Plantation Wild Boar are 100% born and bred wild and are a mixed strain of feral hogs and European Boar. These hogs have evolved for many generations in the Georgia swamps and are generally very big and nasty-tempered. We strongly suggest that you choose your hunting weapon accordingly and make certain that you are proficient in it's use. When you see your first Gopher Plantation Wild Boar we guarantee that you will feel the adrenaline flowing.
Unlike many other Wild Boar hunting programs, the Gopher Plantation Wild Boar hunt is 100% fair chase. The Wild Boar are free roaming in their natural habitat and no dogs are used in the hunt. The Wild Boar live in an area dominated by river bottoms, rolling hills and heavy foliage. We have provided food plots, feeding stations and several elevated stands and ground blinds in the prime Wild Boar feeding areas and travel routes. The Gopher Plantation supplemental feeding program ensures that there will be many trophy Wild Boar available in the area where the hunter is positioned. Some hunters prefer to hunt the mega-boars exclusively while others are more interested in their success rate and the edibility of their game. The Gopher Plantation guides will pre-scout the Wild Boar herd and habitat prior to your hunt and advise you as to the best location and strategy for harvesting the Wild Boar trophy you prefer. This is the fourth season for organized Wild Boar hunting on the Gopher Plantation and it promises to be an adventurous and memorable hunting experience.
There have numerous quality Wild Boar taken in recent seasons including some awesome trophies.
