Welcome to the Bad River Experience!

Bad River Bucks & Birds, LLC, located on a 100-year old family owned ranch in the rugged heart of South Dakota, is groomed for wildlife in its natural habitat.
Home to an abundant number of wild pheasants and some of the largest deer in the state, the ranch regularly plants both cover and food plots to attract a variety of upland game and deer as well as prairie dogs and other game. A portion of the land is designated as a hunting preserve, which allows for exclusive early and late season hunting. Trophy sized animals are as common as the panoramic sunsets.
Here the hunter will find sanctuary. Whether quietly huddling in a blind among never-ending fields of reed canary grass, tracking through a foot of fresh snow on a silent morning or celebrating a successful hunt among friends at our discriminating lodge.
Bad River Bucks & Birds, LLC participates in the Cabela's Outdoor Adventures World's Foremost Destination Program. We have been featured on North American Hunter and on Kent Hrbek Outdoors and in articles by Varmit Hunter, Predator Extreme, Mossy Oak and Outdoor Life.
Pheasant Hunts
This is truly North America's ultimate upland game adventure. It is typical, during the season, to see 500 to 1,000 birds a day plus a wide variety of other animals. You owe it to yourself to come up and watch well trained dogs flush bird after bird after bird. There are very few places in South Dakota that can compete with bird numbers that we have per acre. On top of that, how many places in South Dakota have half the amount of acres that we have? You’ll have access to tens of thousands of acres and you’ll be able to hunt the prairie chicken. We are lucky enough to be one of the few places in the United States with such a huntable population.

• Both small groups and corporate groups can be accommodated
• Day hunts are also available ($200 a gun)
• Goose hunts can be added
• Extra pheasants can be arranged to be taken off our preserve
Our pheasant hunt is a 3 day hunt, 4 night stay, all inclusive for $1,995 per person. This hunt includes airport pickup (if needed), transportation while on the ranch, guides, bird cleaning, meals, daily maid service, and an open bar at the end of each days hunt. This hunt starts the 3rd Saturday in October and runs through the end of December. We allow you to shoot 3 pheasants, 3 sharp-tail grouse/prairie chicken combined, and 3 partridge.
Guests are welcome to bring their own dogs also on the hunt and we’ll provide you with heated kennels.
Upland cover consist of grain crops cut into strips for easy walking, shelter belts, wooded thicket draws, cattail sloughs, kosha weed patches, and much more to chase that long-tailed feather beauty into flight.
Upland Preserve Hunts
This hunt includes everything the upland hunt does as long as the grouse season is in. This hunt starts the 1st of September and runs through the 31st of March. This is a 3 day hunt, 4 night stay, all inclusive for $1,995 per hunter.
This hunt allows you to shoot four roosters per day, plus three partridge, prairie chicken and sharp-tail grouse as long as the original season is in. We have 2,000 acres set aside for our preserve hunts and this allows us to extend are pheasant season. This is not like most of your local preserve however. The state requires we keep track of everything we take off and for every bird we harvest we have to put one back. So we put the net amount of birds out at the end of August so they are plenty wild if they make it through the season. Please note that at least 60 percent of the birds we take off our preserve are wild, so they are not all pen raised birds.

Dove hunting can be combined in this hunt in early September.
Goose hunting can be combined in the first 3 weeks in January.
Wild Turkey Hunts
This hunt is done in our hardwood timber river bottoms where there is a high concentration of Merriam turkeys. This season starts in the second weekend of April and runs through May.

We allow you to take two toms per hunt in unit 41A. You are allowed to take the birds with the weapon of your choice.
These hunts are semi or fully guided with your preference. This is a great way to get another leg in that grand slam with great quality birds.
This hunt includes airport pickup, transportation, meals, lodging, daily maid service, guides, and an open bar at the end of each days hunt. This hunt is $1,595 per hunter for a 3 day hunt, 4 night stay all inclusive.
