Hunting
Pheasant and Upland Hunting At Glacial Lakes Resort we have over three thousand acres of privately owned land on which to hunt South Dakota's State bird, the ring-necked pheasant. Our land is meticuously cultivated to provide premier habitat for wild pheasants, resulting in a huge population of birds.
Our employees work with several organizations, such as Pheasants Forever, South Dakota Game & Fish, Natural Resource & Conservation and Ducks Unlimited, to ensure that our land provides the best habitat possible for pheasants, ducks, deer and other wild game.
Waterfowl Hunting At Glacial Lakes Hunting Resort you'll find a group of guys who are hardcore goose and duck hunters. We choose to live and breath South Dakota air because hunting is our passion.
South Dakota waterfowl hunting is excellent, fast-paced and of course, lots of fun. We're right in the heart of the central flyway where hundreds of thousands of waterfowl make their yearly migration. Thousand upon thousands of birds migrate through our privately owned and operated hunting waters and fields each fall. Our guided goose hunting adventures mean you likely will experience these large flocks at very close range. You just bring your gun, shells, waders, license and stamps ... leave eveything else up to us.
A quality hunt is our goal. You will hunt from comfortable duck/goose blinds or pits over awesome decoy spreads. The guided goose hunting and duck hunting experiences at Glacial Lakes Hunting Resort are second to none.

Glacial Lakes Hunting Area
Our area has a landscape dotted with bountiful natural lakes nestled in green waving valleys. Land so rich its building blocks of soil, water and sunshine provide havens for wildlife plants and the continuance of "small town America." During your visit you'll be exposed to the bold, yet calming landscape of lake and prairies. You'll begin to wonder what natural and mighty force sculpted these magnificent features.
About 20 thousand years ago, the last in a series of glaciers moved across North America like a pancake spreading on a griddle. As the glacier entered South Dakota from the northeast it essentially buried the land. Imagine that just one cubic foot of ice weighs 57 pounds and a glacier 1600 feet thick would exert 45 tons of pressure on every square foot of ground it covers.
Now imagine that glaciers have the ability to move -- even if just a few inches a day. A moving mountain of ice acts like a white bulldozer. It can scour and scrape the land, level high places and fill in low ones, smooth surfaces and gouge others. Thus the resulting landscape is a formation called a glacial moraine.
The glacial lakes -- the clear blue waters that give the region its name -- were also formed by the white bulldozer. Huge chucks of ice were left behind as the glacier retreated. When the ice chunks themselves melted and the land around them slumped in, they left large round holes that later filled with water.
As time progressed this glacial moraine continued to change, from ice to glacial lakes and waving grasses. French explorers of the early 1800s, knowing no other word for the rolling ocean of grass and wildflowers, called it "prairie," meaning meadow. Lewis and Clark called it simply plains, while others called it steppe, but prairie prevailed. Thus early explorers termed this region Coteau des Prairies, or "hills of the prairie."
According to the accounts of early travelers, the sheer vastness of the prairie was overwhelming. Grass in some places was so tall a man on horseback could scarcely see over it and a man on foot was helpless.
Our Top Notch Hunting Dogs www.vomwiredhaus.com Our guided pheasant hunts include our professionally trained German Wire-Haired Pointers. These dogs live the life God intended for them ... hunting pheasants almost every day!!! Our dogs live in first class indoor kennels with outdoor runs. Each dog has their own heated kennel area and private run.
And, of course, what kind of waterfowl hunt would be complete without a professionally trained retriever. If you have your own dog, please bring them and let them stay in the comfort of our kennel.
At Glacial Lakes Hunting resort we train and sell German-wired pointers, German Shorthairs, and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. We specialize in started dogs and AKC puppies. Please call 800-962-8587 for pricing and availability.
Cuisine
Dining at Glacial Lakes Hunting Resort is always a treat. Our gourmet chefs will wow any appetite with carefully prepared prime aged Angus beef, fish, pork and wild game.
Each menu is dedicated to the art of eating. From the flavor, texture and taste of the finest prime beef and steaks, to an array of palate-pleasing entree, salads, sides and desserts. Here at Glacial Lakes Resort our guest are our priorities and we will accommodate any special meal plan or needs.
Trap Shooting
Trap shooting is almost like playing golf with a shotgun. Instead of whacking a ball with a club, you shoot a flying clay target with a shotgun. A sport where fellow hunters shoot together to compete against each other and self. Our lodge is the ideal place for guests to hone their skill or just relax with fellow shooting enthusiasts.
To ensure the ultimate enjoyment of the facilities, all equipment is regularly serviced and upgraded. The property and trap equipment is managed and maintained by our onsite staff.
