The Ranch is a rare combination of natural beauty, exceptional facilities, and friendly folks who know what world-class wing shooting is all about. During the fall and winter, we're all about wingshooting for Texas bobwhite quail, chukar, Hungarian partridge, and pheasant, as well as game hunting for Hill Country Whitetail deer and the Rio Grande turkey during the designated season for these animals. And for those who want that trophy Axis buck, you can hunt Axis year round!

In the spring and summer, we move to the call of the hammock instead of the call of the hunt! We cater to outdoor aficionados in the spring and summer months who crave a natural and secluded setting to fish & float, canoe & kayak, and hike & bike. Joshua Creek Ranch is a great place to have your family reunion, your corporate retreat or workshop, your wedding, or any other special destination event.
If you're not a hunter, but you are a shooting enthusiast who likes the competition of sporting clays, we offer a world-class, ten-station sporting clays course! Call for reservations, please.
It's our goal to make Joshua Creek Ranch a safe, exciting and thoroughly rewarding retreat for every outdoor enthusiast, every time, any time of the year!

Hunting
A giant Live Oak tree sheltering the flagstone terrace of Joshua Creek Ranch Lodge has been growing there for hundreds of years. It is a magnificent reminder of the time nature required to produce the perfect bird hunting environment.

Hunters can choose from quail, pheasant, chukar, and Hungarian Partridge in a season that runs from October 1st through March 31st. There is whitetail deer and the big rack Axis, as well as Rio Grande turkey. In addition to a variety of game, we offer an expansive array of bird hunts: Traditional Walk-up Shooting with experienced bird dogs, European-Style Driven Pheasant Shooting - just imagine hundreds of prime pheasants exploding from bluffs and ridges to challenge your shotgunning skill as they lift high overhead -- and the new Continental Pheasant Shoot, where hunters and their dogs rotate through ten challenging stations, with a variety of different terrain retrieves.
Our experienced guides know the land, the wildlife, and the essentials of hunting. They are, literally, at your side to instruct, if needed, to assist, or simply to find the birds and handle the dogs.
A variety of wingshooting packages and deer and turkey hunting options are available, or a custom package can be developed to meet your specific preference.

Just north of San Antonio, nestled in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, visitors will find 1200 acres of the finest wingshooting they'll ever experience. Specializing in European-style driven pheasant shoots and walk-up hunts for a variety of upland gamebirds -- chukar, Hungarian partridge, pheasant, and quail -- Joshua Creek Ranch is serious about providing a hunting experience for its guests and members that will long be remembered as an exceptional adventure.
Hunting Styles Joshua Creek Ranch offers three styles of hunting: the traditional walk-up hunt, the European-style Driven Pheasant Shoot, and the Continental Shoot.
Dogs Joshua Creek Ranch had professionally trained field dogs -- pointers, flushers, and retrievers -- that accompany our guides on all of the hunts.
Wing Shooting Packages Joshua Creek Ranch offers a variety of Wing Shooting Packages from half-day mixed bag hunts for pheasant, chukar, partridge and quail to two and three day overnight hunt packages, half-day driven pheasant shoots, and continental shoots for pheasant and partridge. As soon as you harvest your deer or turkey, give us a call on your cell phone and we’ll be right there to help you recover your kill and field dress it. There's plenty to do at the Ranch without even picking up a gun. You can float the Guadalupe River in the spring and summer. We have tubes, kayaks, and canoes and we'll take you to your put-in point and pick you up at your final destination. (What could be better!) Finally, between May and September, you can hike and bike the back woods trails and pasture roads of Joshua Creek Ranch. There are rolling hills, deep valleys, and numerous water crossings. What more could you want in an invigorating hiking or mountain bike riding experience!
Water Sports There's nothing quite like floating the Guadalupe River to find relief from the Texas heat! We have 2 miles of the river that border the north boundary of the Ranch -- and best of all, it's private, not crowded, and the scenery is deep-in-the-heart of Texas Hill Country!

At Joshua Creek Ranch, lodging is defined as rustic elegance in the Hill Country -- cozy, comfortable, but with a style reminiscent of the great hunting lodges in Europe. Dining is always a delight, with four-course gourmet game dinners featured during the Fall and Winter hunting (“high”) season, and similar, but lighter fare during the Spring and Summer (“low” season).
Dining Joshua Creek Ranch offers year-round dining. In the Fall and Winter, appetizers are served around the stone firepit on the oak-canopied, natural flagstone patio, with sumptuous gourmet game dinners served by candlelight in the cozy dining room of the Main Lodge. Lodging Retreat, relax, refresh, and rejuvenate at Joshua Creek Ranch. Our lodging reflects the rugged beauty of the Texas Hill Country combined with the creature comforts of home!
Clay Shooting
The premier location of Joshua Creek Ranch in the spectacular Texas Hill Country makes its Sporting Clays Course one of the most beautiful in the country according to well-traveled shooters. Joshua Creek Ranch offers two clay target shooting venues: Sporting Clays and Wobble Trap. Either venue can be organized into a variety of shooting scenarios such as instruction, practice, competition, or games. Both are available in easy walking distance from the Main Lodge, Main Lodge Suite, and the Long Haus. Steel shot is required for both sporting clays and wobble trap.
Sporting Clays
Joshua Creek Ranch boasts two Sporting Clays course! We have a traditional 10-station Sporting Clays course where targets are lauched in a variety of ways approximating a different hunting scenario at each station. We also offer our new Continental Clays course, where targets are launched from overhead, simulating a driven pheasant shoot or continental pheasant shoot. Shooters rotate through ten different stations, and clays of varying size are used, approximating the different sizes of pheasants on a pheasant shoot. The Continental Clays course is a great training tool for novice shooters who are about to experience their first driven pheasant shoot. Sporting Clays are offered year-round from 8:00 am until dark, in rounds of 50 or 100 targets. A trapper accompanies every squad of shooters that enters the course to ensure safety and appropriate operation of the traps for consistency of targets. The course features novice-friendly targets since the fun is in breaking targets, not missing them. For competition shoots, a couple of difficult stations are added to the mix to separate the great from the good shooters.
The Wobble Trap
The Wobble Trap area is lighted and available year-round from 7:00am until 9:30 pm for practice, instruction, and games. Bird hunters are encouraged to shoot a few practice rounds here before departing for their field hunts. The wobble trap is the perfect scenario for beginning shooters or those needing practice or fine-tuning of a certain shot. The Wobble Trap setting is such that shooters can position themselves to get any angle they want on the target: going away, quartering left or right, incoming, etc. The Wobble Trap offers an endless opportunity for a variety of shooting games, including “missin’ out,” “baseball,” “poison bird,” and more.
Shooting Instruction
Joshua Creek Ranch maintains full time shooting instructors for beginning shooters. If you need some instruction at the Wobble Trap before beginning your Sporting Clays, we'll be glad to assist! Professional instructors for more advanced shooters can be arranged with advance notice. Shooting Events
Sporting Clays and Wobble trap are fun and economical when it comes to entertaining a large group of shooters. Custom packages can be developed for shooting events that include instruction, a competition course, prizes, meals, and beverages, etc. Joshua Creek Ranch is an excellent, attractive location for charity and other fundraising events.
Shooting Equipment and Supplies
Joshua Creek Ranch maintains an inventory of approximately 10 Berretta double barrel, over and under rental shotguns, ammunition for all shotgun gauges, and a variety of ammo carriers.
Shooting Instruction
Joshua Creek Ranch maintains full time shooting instructors for beginning shooters. Shooting instruction for beginners will cover basic gun safety items such as how to carry a gun, how to properly load your gun, and how to aim and position your gun when shooting. The differences between the various shotgun gauges are explained, as well as the kinds and varieties of shells, from the gauge to the differences between - - and the uses for -- lead and steel shot. What is the difference between an over- and-under, or a side-by-side shotgun? What is meant by “high brass” and “low brass”? Do I need to sight in a shotgun? Why can't I hunt deer or turkey with a shotgun? All of these questions and more are covered by an instructor. Hunting etiquette and field safety rules are covered, as well. You will be taken to our Wobble Trap, where your instructor will carefully guide you through the fundamentals of loading, aiming, and firing at clay targets. From there, after a few rounds of target shooting, if you've scheduled a hunt, you're ready for the challenge of a covey of quail, or a ring-neck pheasant bursting from the high grass.
Professional instructors for more advanced shooters can be arranged with advance notice.
