 The ranches we hunt are hard working brush country ranches that encompass 600,000 acres from west central Texas all the way through to West Texas and running through Coleman, Callahan, Taylor, Runnels, Glasscock, Sterling, Mitchell and Howard Counties.
All of our ranches are prime and expertly managed consisting of native pasture land, gentle rolling terrain, mesquite flats, prickly pair patches and over 72 freshwater lakes, these ranches constantly produce a great abundance of wildlife.
You are sure to see more than your fair share of mature trophy whitetails that compete with anything in the nation, as well as Rio Grande turkey, bobwhite quail and in the farther western counties you will see a mix of bobwhite quail and blue scale quail.

Quail Hunting in Texas
Action, excitement, and guaranteed success! Whether you’re a seasoned bird hunters or new to the sport, there’s nothing quite like an action filled bird hunt. Here at First Shot Outfitters we hunt 100% wild birds. Whether your party seeks blue or bobwhite quail, our knowledgeable staff and extraordinary dogs will ensure that you experience the sport of the hunt at its finest. Our guides are personable and accomplished sportsmen, as well as gifted dog handlers. Each guide will be equipped with rigged out ATV’s and at least 8 fine tuned birddogs on the truck at one time. Our determined birddogs love to immerse themselves in the hunt and will eagerly work at your side doing what they love best all to ensure you of a successful, enjoyable and memorable hunting trip.
You will quickly learn this is no ordinary hunt. Your experience will began the evening of arrival, with your group gathering around the table enjoying one of many fine southern style meals that will be prepared for you during your stay. Some of which were featured in Grazing Across Texas: Rod, Gun & Ranch Cooking. Grazing Across Texas pays tribute to the culinary that complements Texas and has beautiful photography and complimentary commentary on our operation. The following morning we will start your day off right with a traditional breakfast and a killer sunrise that you just can’t get in the city. Then off for the days hunt. Breaking the days hunt will be a truly Texas Style lunch, with fresh pies made daily. Following your lunch and a little relaxing, the afternoon hunt will begin. Finally, at sun down you will return to the lodge, were beer will be iced and an appetizer waiting. You can gather around the camp fire telling tails while we serve up our wonderful mesquite grilled Rib-eyed steaks and completing the meal with the house favorite almond layered bread pudding with amaretto sauce.
After all your hunting days are complete we send you off with a final breakfast and all your game cleaned and bagged in a First Shot Outfitters cooler bag.
The Lodge
  
Our 2 lodges are spacious well decorated and bursting with character.
The arriving is easy it’s the departing you will find hard to do.
One Lodge is a custom built log cabin located 50 miles southeast of Abilene and was built in august 2005. It was constructed of enormous hand carved fir timbers and with an oversized rock fireplace extending to the old barn tin used on the ceiling.
This lodge is one of a kind and perfect for entertaining corporate guests or enhancing personal friendships.
Our Texas style cuisine is world class.
