WINGSHOOTING Primland has been an Orvis endorsed wingshooting lodge since 1990. Pheasant hunting is a specialty and Primland's early release methods ensure an abundance of hard-flushing, flighty birds. Shooting is done in hedgerows, woodlands and plantings of Milo, sorghum and switch grasses. Preserve bobwhite quail, chukar and released mallard duck shooting provide additional shooting opportunities to Primland's hunting guests. Bird cleaning services including plucking, skinning, filleting, icing and packing for transport are available at an additional fee. Primland recommends High Brass #6 Shot for Pheasant & Chukar and 7-1/2 for Quail. Shells are available at Primland's Orvis Outfitters Shop.

SPRING GOBBLER HUNTING There are two kinds of hunters: Spring Gobbler fanatics and those who have not tried it. The elusive Gobbler makes its home in the most rugged and inaccessible parts of the Blue Ridge, so it's important to be candid about your ability to hike physically challenging terrain. Camouflaging your gun with tape and your body with a full camouflage outfit that includes face net and gloves, are two other prerequisites to success. Primland offers packages that include lodging and meals. Full outfitting is available at an additional charge.
DEER HUNTING
Like wild gobblers in the spring, this is true fair chase hunting and no guarantees can be made regarding success. Deer are most active in early morning and late evening and hunting is done primarily from elevated blinds and stands. Guests may also choose to hunt from the ground by stalking or "still" hunting. Hunters are transported to their hunting areas and blinds by Primland guides, who also assist in tracking and recovering downed game. Both doe and buck hunting are allowed in most management units. Only bucks meeting minimum antler restrictions may be harvested and penalty fees are in place to limit the harvesting of young bucks. Virginia hunting licenses are required and sold on site. All Virginia game laws and policies apply. Our package includes lodging and meals for multiple days of hunting. Weather during November and December is very unpredictable and hunters need to outfit for temperatures ranging from 17F to 75F. Complete processing of meat is available. For those who either can't or choose not to transport game, a charitable organization is available locally that will accept, process and distribute venison to feed the less fortunate. We limit hunting on our vast estate to only ten clients per day making deer hunting at Primland Resort an excellent choice for young and less experienced hunters.
SPORTING CLAYS
Sporting Clays is a challenging target game designed to simulate field shooting conditions. Progressing through 15 stations over a mile-long course, shooters are presented with a variety of targets that duplicate the flight path of game birds. At our "grouse station," for example, shooters face flushing "birds" that zip in and out of the trees. At our "decoying duck" station, incoming targets float in toward the shooter. And at our "rabbit" station, targets are thrown end-over-end and skitter across the ground. Esquire Magazine rated Primland as one of the top twenty-five courses in the nation. Shooters may walk or travel by golf cart. Sporting grade double and auto loader shotguns are available for use.
